Visions of the Dancing Wu-Li Masters
ABOUT THE ALBUM
The symbols are a psychedelic prophecy written by the artist, in an alien language, a long time ago.
The Dancing Wu-Li Masters (2023)
by Genelex
This mini album tells the story, in five chapters, of a cosmic encounter. It starts with brooding premonition, past visions and psychedelic predictions, and a clear sense of destiny (1) (2). Next, friendship love and admiration whirl in a cosmic dance. Our main characters, exact polar opposites yet
paradoxically entirely identical, meet and excitedly get to know each other. The creative beauty and power of twin soul synergy is happily explored (3). A deep connection is uncovered based on special circumstances of birth. But beware of the dark side. Tragically, despite their (platonic) attraction, complex personalities and sensitivities lead to mutual triggering of past trauma. Conflict is inevitable. The friendship explodes and there's a breakup (4). Contemplation is all that's left amid the shattered pieces. Contact is lost. Will they ever meet again? (5).
The album title is a reference to the main characters as well as to the artist himself. Known for his monk-like demeanor and nerdy clinging to physics, eastern philosophy and metaphysics, friends at the Amsterdam dance scene called him the Dancing Wu-Li Master after the book by Gary Zukav that he used to carry around. Wu-Li stands for quantum physics: patterns of organic energy, entangled in a cosmic dance.
The five tracks were produced in several creative bursts spread across seven months in 2023. Aside from the more traditionally crafted (3), the tracks were put together in a rough and expressionist manner, quickly and intuitively arriving at the musical outline and key schematics. In the case of (1), the track was created in a subconscious trance-like state. It appeared to be channeled from another dimension, the producer acting as the medium. After that deep experience, the rest followed naturally.
Production mixing and mastering took place at Genelex' Saturn studio in Amersfoort. On the tech side this involves a Waves-enhanced Cubase 12 DAW setup with a monitoring stack centered around an
M-Audio I/O interface with a much loved and trusted pair of Genelec 1030A's. The hybrid/hardware based analog/digital instrument setup includes e.g. 2600, Moog, Digitone, TB-03, Streichfett and Typhon gear. Above all, Omnisphere wears the crown. iZotope was used for the mastering projects.
